Skyhook Launches the D6 Solar Station, Bringing Off-Grid and Grid-Optimizing Solar Power to EV Charging, Micromobility and More

As electric vehicle adoption accelerates, one of the industry’s biggest challenges remains access to charging infrastructure. Building traditional charging stations often requires lengthy permitting, utility upgrades, and significant construction costs. Colorado-based Skyhook Solar is taking a different approach by delivering transportable, solar-powered charging stations that can be deployed in hours instead of months.
In partnership with Rivian, Skyhook launched its innovative new D6 Solar Station last week at Aspen Ideas Fest, featuring Skyhook’s OCPP-compatible, user-friendly charging app with fleet and battery management software. Held annually at the Aspen Institute, Ideas Fest is one of the world’s premier gatherings for leaders in business, technology, science, education, public policy, philanthropy, healthcare, and the arts. The summer event brings together influential thinkers to discuss solutions to many of society’s most pressing challenges, including climate change, artificial intelligence, energy, economic development, public health, education, and global affairs.

Skyhook Solar’s D6 Level X™ Solar Station is a self-contained, zero-emissions charging solution designed to provide clean energy for electric vehicles, micromobility fleets, emergency power, and communications infrastructure without requiring a traditional grid connection, but supplementing the grid where optimal.
The transportable system combines a 28 kWh battery with more than 3200 watts of bifacial solar panels, allowing it to generate and store renewable energy on-site. Solar input and battery capacity can be doubled by deployment of a tandem D12 Solar Station, featuring two D6 solar canopies side-by-side or daisy-chained back-to-back. Skyhook’s Level X technology works where the grid cannot go or where a grid connection would be cost-prohibitive. Skyhook Solar has worked with all levels of EV charging, as well as off-grid In the Navajo Nation, and in a variety of commercial and municipal energy applications.
The Level X Solar Station features an integrated microcomputer with LTE or satellite connectivity, enabling remote monitoring and communications. Additional features include LED under-canopy lighting and four optional 30-inch by 36-inch display panels, and a larger base panel, that can be used for advertising, public messaging, or sponsorship purposes.
The Skyhook’s solar canopy spans approximately 132 square feet while maintaining a compact 72-inch by 42-inch footprint with 8 feet of overhead clearance. The autonomous unit weighs approximately 3,500 pounds, making it transportable while remaining robust enough for permanent or semi-permanent installations.
According to Skyhook, the Level X D6 Solar Station is currently priced at $54,500. The system is designed for municipalities, multi-family parking lots, events, parks, campuses, remote locations, but also for private homes and workplaces, where resilient, clean, rapidly deployable charging infrastructure is needed.
